Beloved faculty and seminarians of St. Sophia Seminary family: CHRIST IS AMONG US!

I am reaching out to you with the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Antony, Rector of our Saint Sophia Ukrainian Orthodox Theological Seminary of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA.

In order to contain the spread of COVID-19 and in compliance with the regulations of the Governor of the State of New Jersey, Saint Sophia Ukrainian Orthodox Theological Seminary will cancel all in-person classes immediately, and will switch to online classes beginning Wednesday, March 11, and extending until Monday, April 13.

Our Human Resources employees are available to answer questions by phone or online. The Seminary office building will remain open to employees only so they can safely maintain operations and support our students and faculty. Office hours are:

9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Students are encouraged to call main Consistory of the UOC of the USA phone number at 732-356-0090 with questions or concerns.

Please continue to monitor your emails closely for communications from faculty about next steps. Faculty will communicate with students with further information about how courses will be delivered moving forward. Your on-file student email account will be the official means of communication with faculty regarding coursework and for COVID-19 updates.

Additionally, should we need to utilize our emergency notification email and text alert, please review and update your information in the Faculty and Student database. Text messages will not be sent to a landline phone number.

In accordance with Saint Sophia’s decision to minimize the spread of COVID-19, ALL public events are suspended between March 9 and April 13. The Seminary will examine which events can be rescheduled for later this spring. Some events are still under consideration. All events after Monday, April 13, are still planned as scheduled. Saint Sophia Seminary will reassess the situation as April 13 approaches and provide updates as more information is available.

We appreciate your continued patience as we navigate these unprecedented challenges. Whatever may come in the upcoming weeks, we are confident that our Church’s Seminary community will pull together in unified and caring support. We all look forward to the day when we can safely resume our regular activities. Meanwhile, it is our resolve that this extraordinary situation will make us an even stronger academic institution of the Church.

Let us pray for each other and our community, and especially those affected by this virus and the healthcare community working to keep people safe.

With prayers,

+Daniel,

By the Grace of God Archbishop and Academic Dean
